Geek For E!

What’s Moonrise Kingdom? A record-breaking new movie, that’s what.

I adore Wes Anderson movies.  Okay, maybe Bottle Rocket didn’t do it for me, but RushmoreThe Life Aquatic?  Absolutely.  Not to mention The Royal Tennenbaums, one of my top-ten movies of all time.  (Hey, it’s like he filmed my life y’all.)

Anyway, his latest is Moonrise Kingdom, and last weekend it set a record by posting “the highest recorded per-theater average for a live-action movie released domestically.”  Not to shabby.

Movie Review: Men In Black 3 (MiB3)

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 15 years since the original Men In Black (MiB) hit the big screen.  And harder still to realize that it’s been 10 years since Men In Black II (MIIB).  I must have been neuralized or something.  Luckily all the years fall away once Will Smith’s Agent J and Tommy Lee Jones’ Agent K show up on screen in Men In Black 3 (MiB3).  Luckier still is that Josh Brolin does such a wonderful job as the younger Agent K; what could have been a hammy mimic performance that shot this movie in the foot instead breathes life into the series.  Yeah it’s the same old “Save The World” story we’ve seen before, but it’s just as much fun this time around.

Classic films get the full-screen treatment this Summer at Cinemark

Hitchcock!  Fosse!  Kubrick!  Cary Grant! John Wayne! Paul Newman!  If, like me, you never got a chance to see movies made by these greats up on the big screen, you’ll get your chance this summer, when Cinemark holds it’s “Summer Classics Series”.  Movie geek cred and air conditioning in the heat of a Baltimore summer; what better way to spend your time?

Oh, and did I mention that each of these movies are FULLY RESTORED?  Sweet!

The Dark Knight’s Bat Pod and Tumbler come to the Inner Harbor Memorial Day!

It’s almost here!  No, not the glorious, splendiferous holiday weekend that means an extra day of awesome for everyone.  I’m talking about the Bad Pod.  I’m rather psyched for this, as I’m a sucker for all things that go vroom.

And if you’re staying in town this weekend (or will be back home Monday), you’ll get a chance to take a look at the ‘Pod & Tumbler, all up close and personal-like.  Check it out….

Movie Review: Darling Companion

Beth (Diane Keaton) is a woman that is coming to terms with her empty nest.  Her kids are growing up, marrying and starting lives of their own.  Well, Grace (Elizabeth Moss) isn’t going anywhere, or so she insists.  So when Beth and Grace find an injured dog by the side of the freeway, it’s probably kismet.  Beth’s husband Joseph (Kevin Kline) isn’t happy about the new addition, but the dog — christened “Freeway” — soon becomes a part of the family.  So when Freeway is lost in the woods, family and friends all do their best to find him.  Poor puppeh!

When I read the summary for Darling Companion, I jumped at the chance to review it.  Then I saw that it was by Lawrence Kasdan, director of one of my favorite movies, The Big Chill, and screenwriter for my nerd addictions Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, (part of what I like to think of as The Good Trilogy) and Raiders of the Lost Ark.  I tried not to get too excited for fear of building things up too much in my head.  I needn’t have worried; Darling Companion had me harkening back to my favorite feel-good films, like Baby Boom, In & Out, and yes, The Big Chill.

Check out Batman’s Tumbler and Bat-Pod when they come to Baltimore!

The final film of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, is coming our way soon.  But we’ll get an up-close look at two of the coolest machines this side of Gotham when Batman’s Bat-Pod and his brand-new Tumbler hit Baltimore.  Yes, they’re coming to Charm City.  Sweet, right?  Well, here’s how to get a peek….

Maryland-based film Lovely Molly hits Cinemark Egyptian May 18th

You do all the right things to support local businesses; you shop local stores, you visit farmers markets and you even buy locally made beer (or maybe that’s just me — holla Heavy Seas!)  But now you can hit Cinemark Egyptian and support a movie that was shot here in the Free State. Creepy-cool horror movie Lovely Molly hits three cities in it’s opening weekend, New York, L.A. and Baltimore.  If you liked The Blair Witch Project, this one should be on your radar, since Eduardo Sánchez wrote and directed this film and that instant classic of the found-footage genre.

Here’s the scoop….
