Baltimore Screening: World War Z – June 18, 2013

Just when you thought it was safe to not shoot shuffling hordes in the head…. Wanna get in on how to save the world from the zombie invasion?  Of course you do.  And we’re here to help, with free passes to the Baltimore screening of World War Z.  Squee!  Yeah, I squee’d.  I’m excited, I won’t lie.

From the fabulous folks that bring us all our PR goodies:

A former UN investigator is thrust into the middle of trying to stop what could be the end of the world.  Worldwide destruction sends him around the globe seeking clues about what they are fighting and what it will take to defeat it, as he tries to save the lives of billions of strangers, as well as his own beloved family.

And don’t forget to check out the trailer.  Because it’s kinda awesome.  Plus, it’s PG-13, so there’ll be more gangbusters than gore, methinks.  Which means you don’t have to pass on munchies.  You’ll be able to keep ’em down.

Read on for exactly how to get some face time with Brad Pitt and the zombies!

Wanna win a Blu-Ray copy of A Haunted House?

As y’all know, I love horror movies.  I also love movies that make fun of horror movies.  Y’know, as long as they’re funny.

For example, A Haunted House, which just hit Blu-Ray late last month.  It’s a spoof that brings together a few of my favorite funny folks (like Marlon Wayans, Nick Swardson, Cedric the Entertainer, David Koechner and J.B. Smoove) and puts ’em in, you guessed it, a haunted house.

From IMDb:

Malcolm and Kisha move into their dream home, but soon learn a demon also resides there. When Kisha becomes possessed, Malcolm – determined to keep his sex life on track – turns to a priest, a psychic, and a team of ghost-busters for help.

Now there’s a man who has his priorities straight!  And I’m sure that there will be plenty of laughs along the way.

But sometimes there’s a movie that is downright hilarious…but wasn’t supposed to be.  That horror movie that has more people howling with laughter than in fright.  I’m sure you guys know what I’m talking about.  Why am I so sure?  Because that’s the key to this giveaway…. *cue evil laughter*

Where’s Denise? — Iron Man 3 screening passes giveaway

Okay y’all, you are awesome.  Just in case you didn’t know, I’m telling you right now.  The response to my Geek for e Facebook page question of “where should I go?” got some seriously great answers.

* Stark Industries — great idea, but if I told you the super-secret location, I’d have to kill you.  Nobody wants that.

* A Starbucks — hooray for coffee and coffee cake!

* A Mall — mmm, shopping.

* A Museum — now THAT is something that strikes a chord in my DC-area-born heart!

* The Inner Harbor/Harbor East — as I live in SoBo, that’s very tempting.  Very.

* A comic book store — Marvel loves you guys right now.

So, what won?  Drumroll please….

Baltimore Movie Screening: free passes to Oz The Great And Powerful

I still love The Wizard of Oz.  It’s iconic.  It’s beautiful.  And those shoes are to die for.  I’ve even read a few of L. Frank Baum’s other Oz stories; Ozma of Oz is a great character, and I still wish we had lunch-pail trees in the real world.

Now the story just about everybody knows is getting a spiffy prequel.  Oz the Great snd Powerful is directed by Sam “I rocked Evil Dead y’all” Raimi and takes place before Dorothy, when “The Wizard” first makes his appearance in Oz.  I’m glad to see that this film is rated PG; from the trailer and artwork I’ve seen it’s sure to be eye candy for all ages.  Mmm, so pretty.  But with this new, witch-tastic poster, it looks like they’re still gonna whip out the green for the Wicked Witches….

The official synopsis:

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful wizard but into a better man as well.

For more info, check out the official Web site at Disney.com/TheWizard, the film’s Facebook page, and the Disney Pictures Twitter feed. Oz the Great and Powerful is in theaters March 8, in DISNEY DIGITAL 3D™, REALD 3D and IMAX® 3D.

Now, about those passes.  Ready?  Read on….
