Movie Review: Elysium, 2013 (B-)

The makers of ‘District 9’ bring you a new type of future.  One where the rich and powerful live healthy and care free, while the poor and sick live with poverty and starvation…wait, are we talking about current day Earth or a bold new look at a future one?  Elysium is the supposed future, but you’ll feel like it’s the present day we live in.  B-

GforE! On The Scene @ Rolly Pollie’s (Despicable Me 2)

Despicable Me 2 opens in theaters, Wednesday, July 3rd!

Geek For E! was on the scene at Rolly Polly’s Funtastic Fitness Kids park in Crofton, MD this past Sunday, June 23rd to give out free advance tickets to the Baltimore based screening on Thursday, June 27th.  We’d like to offer a special thank you to Heather & Dana (below) for helping us organize the giveaway to families and patrons.  The kids were excited and the question we got asked the most?  Where was our LIVE minion?

World War Z! Muse! London! Pictures!

Yippee — it’s June!  And you know what that means?  No, not an even more excessive use of exclamation points from me.  It means that we’re thisclose to seeing World War Z on the big screen!  Another exclamation!  Worth it!

Ahem.  Anyway, the World Premiere was in London and it looked (like I missed it) awesome.  And bonus for all you music lovers out there; Muse held a concert.  Yeah, I know; I like ’em too.  Panic Station, anyone?  Yeah baby.  Oh; Muse has a song on the WWZ soundtrack.  Which is just one more plus in that film’s column, if you ask me.

A few pics from the event, to make it seem like you were there.  Just try to brush the Pop-Tart crumbs off your gym shorts first.  It’ll give you that classy feel.  And you’ll be one step ahead of me.

World War Z opens June 21, 2013.  Let ’em come!  Another exclamation!  Maybe this is the month of heightened excitement?

Wanna ask Wolverine a question? You can….

*SNIKT*

If that sound means anything to you, then read on folks.  Oh, and if  you think that Hugh Jackman is awesome (and really, who doesn’t?), you should keep reading too.

Because why?  Because I’ma tell you how you can ask The Wolverine/Hugh Jackman a question about his upcoming movie.  It’s called The Wolverine, and if you haven’t seen the trailer yet, you need to.  It looks like a great new direction for this character in the movieverse, so much so that even my “I’m sick of comic book movies” friends are headed to see it.

From IMDb:

Wolverine makes a voyage to modern-day Japan, where he encounters an enemy from his past that will impact on his future.

Hmmm.  Cue ominous music, I’m sure.  If you wanna know more, just get on Twitter May 2nd.  If you’ve got a question you want to ask immediately?  Go ahead: just use hashtags #TheWolverine #AskHugh or comment on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TheWolverineMovie.

Disney’s Planes screening at EAA Aviation Center

The EAA Aviation Center is a Very Big Deal for folks who love to fly.  And now it’s gonna have the same effect on Disney film fans.  Because Disney’s Planes will be screening there in the fly-in theater.  OMG, they have a fly-in theater.  Seriously.  That is beyond awesome.

From IMDb, a little bit about Disney’s Planes:

Dusty is a cropdusting plane who dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. The problem? He is hopelessly afraid of heights. With the support of his mentor Skipper and a host of new friends, Dusty sets off to make his dreams come true.

Sadly, we don’t have giveaway tix for this one.  But for folks who can’t wait for the movie, check out the trailer!  And am I the only one who thinks Disney had some pretty big cojones to use White Zombie’s “More Human Than Human” as the trailer soundtrack?  Man I love that song.

Disney’s Planes opens August 9th, 2013 in regular-ol’ theaters.  Read on for the full press release!

Psst: wanna be an actor? Casting call for Insidious 2, if you dare!

PHOTO: Screen Rant

I know, I know.  You’ve always known you have what it takes to make it big.  But you’ve never had the chance to show Hollywood.  Well, now you do.  And if you make an impression you just may find yourself on the big screen in this summer’s Insidious 2.

Sure, it’s only a walk-on role, but you never know where that’ll lead.  You’ve gotta start somewhere.  Just ask Suzanne Somers, who played “Blonde in T-Bird” in American Graffiti.  Or Kevin Spacey, who played “Subway Thief” in Heartburn.  Why just think of it; before too long you could join the list of stars who are trying to forget that no-name role that started the wheels turning!  At the very least, you’re sure to meet stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins, who are reprising their roles as Josh, Renai and Dalton Lambert.

From the Insidious 2 Web site:

Think you can make it in The Further? Show us! Enter a video submission that shows us why you should be considered for a walk-on role in the film. You can act out a scene, dress up as your favorite character, or just tell us why you love the movie. The winner will be selected based on originality and relevance to the film so get creative and good luck!

So, famous-person-to-be, what are you waiting for?
