Happy Mons-tober: new Frankenweenie “Old School” posters!

Mmm, remember the old Creature Feature on Channel 20; Count Gore De Vol and all his tricks and treats?  No?  Man I’m old.

But anyway, it’s October (aka The MOST Wonderful Time of the Year) and Disney’s Frankenweenie has put out a few new posters that echo old-time horror movies of the 30s, 40s & 50s.  And they’re awesome!

Take a peek for yourself…IF YOU DARE….

New images for House At The End Of The Street

The weather is cool.  There’s a breeze in the air.  And sure, there’s a tornado watch today but for me?  It’s time to get creepy.  Lucky for me that Relativity Media released some new photos for the scare-fest House at the End of the Street.

From IMDb/Relativity Media:

Newly divorced Sarah and her daughter Elissa find the house of their dreams in a small, upscale, rural town. But when startling and unexplainable events begin to happen, Sarah and Elissa learn the town is in the shadows of a chilling secret.

Take a peek at the pics, and stay tuned for my review this Friday….

Thriller Barricade comes to DVD 9/25

October is headed our way at top speed it seems.  So if you’re like me and already planning your Halloween horrorfest, there’s a new movie hitting DVD this month that promises creepy scares.  Barricade is an “I see ghosts” thriller that stars Will & Grace/Perception‘s Eric McCormack as Terrance, a father who takes his kids to a cabin in the woods in order to try to ease the loss of his wife/their mom.  Um, perhaps a Disney cruise would have been a better idea, based on the trailer for this film….

This film has a bit of The Shining feel to it, as the description hints that “you are never really sure what’s real.  What [Terrance is] seeing, at a certain point, he realizes is possibly not quite true.”  Check out the blurb from the press release:

A holiday in the mountains is an opportunity for the Shade family to accept their tragic loss and start anew.  Little do they know they’ll all be tested in unimaginable ways. Apart from their fun-filled first night at the cabin and a snowball fight the following morning, the family experiences events that would frighten the most fearless.  The harrowing ordeal they are faced with, and ultimately survive, forces Terrance to overcome his fears and truly understand what it means to be a parent.

What’s really freaking me out is that this comes from WWE Studios.  Yep, it’s a subsidiary of wrestling’s WWE.  As wrestling seems to have a home on SyFy — hey nerds, these are the guys that used to pants you in Phys Ed! — maybe I’ll take a moment and give this film a chance.  I mean, it can’t be as bad as SyFy’s Mega Shark Versus Crocosaurus.  Then again not much could….

Count the cracks in the iceburg with Titanic in Blu-Ray

It’s been a pretty damn good year for Blu-Ray addicts like me; Jaws got a spiffy new re-do, Yellow Submarine got it’s Blue Meanie’s out, Indiana Jones is coming out next month…and yes, Deep Blue Sea went Blu-Ray.  What?  It’s awesome.

Now Titanic is hitting the Blu-Ray shelves, and it looks like there’s gonna be a ton o’ stuff for you to feast your eyes on.  There’s even a Blu-Ray 3D pack, for those of you out there with the 3D thang happening.

Me, I’m interested in seeing the storyboard sequences, and the painting gallery.  The art direction for Titanic was simply stunning, so I’m eager to peek at the behind-the-scenes of it all.

Read on for the info on everything that’ll be included, and the press release for the launch.  Er, maybe that’s a poor choice of words….

Daniel Day Lewis…or Lincoln? You be the judge!

It’s no secret that I’m an unabashed horror junkie.  I also am a huge fan of makeup FX, and love to see when artists go above and beyond. With the new biopic Lincoln, there’s some definite above-and-beyond going on; take a gander at Daniel Day Lewis as our 16th President:

Unbelievable, right?  Lewis is widely known for thoroughly inhabiting his characters, but this is the first time he’s looked like a carbon copy. The movie, aptly named Lincoln, is based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s nonfiction book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.  Goodwin’s book isn’t just about the President, it’s “a multiple biography of the entire team of personal and political competitors that…later worked together in Lincoln’s cabinet.”  That makes me interested in the book (a best-seller) and doubly interested in the film.

From an interview with director Steven Spielberg, “Our movie is really about a working leader who must make tough decisions and get things done in the face of overwhelming opposition.”

Lincoln will be opening in limited release November 9, and going wide November 16, 2012.  So now you know where to take your family for a little post-Turkey Day film action.

Help a Baltimore singer “Sparkle”!

Sparkle.  The movie is starring Jordin Sparks and Whitney Houston.  Great voices, right?  Well, a few weeks ago I wrote about the Sparkle Singing Challenge that was to be held here in Baltimore.  And we have a winner — congratulations to Quinten White!

Total Recall lets you “Rekall”

When Ah-nold said “I’ll be back”, he probably didn’t realize his movies would be coming back too.  So far the first go at re-doing his oeuvre hasn’t exactly been a genre classic (Conan?  Single-handedly flushed Jason Momoa’s breakout chances down the loo.  Pity.)

But things are looking up with the new spin on Total Recall; the trailer looks like they’re getting it right this time.  Plus, having tried-and-true big screen actors like Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Bryan Cranston doesn’t hurt.

Wanna get in on the Recall action?  Well, there may not be an app for that (yet), but there’s definitely a game you can check out….

Angelina Jolie is feeling evil as Malificent

Angelina Jolie has a love for the, well, complicated ladies.  Evelyn Salt (glad to see there’s a Salt 2 in the mix), The Tourist‘s Elise, Grendel’s momma in Beowulf, and of course her Oscar-winning turn as Lisa in Girl, Interrupted.  She’s upping the evil as Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis in Malificent.

Gotta say that I was amazed and scared pantsless by this particular witchy queen.  Best evil hairdo ever?  yeah, you better believe it.  Plus, she could transform into one badass dragon; that’s pretty top-notch.

Read on for the details!
