Maryland-based film Lovely Molly hits Cinemark Egyptian May 18th

You do all the right things to support local businesses; you shop local stores, you visit farmers markets and you even buy locally made beer (or maybe that’s just me — holla Heavy Seas!)  But now you can hit Cinemark Egyptian and support a movie that was shot here in the Free State. Creepy-cool horror movie Lovely Molly hits three cities in it’s opening weekend, New York, L.A. and Baltimore.  If you liked The Blair Witch Project, this one should be on your radar, since Eduardo Sánchez wrote and directed this film and that instant classic of the found-footage genre.

Here’s the scoop….

Take a peek at the Chernobyl Diaries

Chernobyl.  Like Three Mile Island, only a thousand times worse.  Even 25 years later, the area in and around Chernobyl is “unsound”.  Sounds like the perfect vacay spot!

If you just read that and thought “not for a million bucks”, you’re a heck of a lot more intelligent than the characters in Chernobyl Diaries, the latest film from Paranormal Activity‘s Oren Peli.  Read on to see an advance pic from the film!

Hey, you know how Terps lacrosse tend to really kick some serious…crosse?  (What; I’m a Terp!  Hey, it’s better than saying balls, right?)  Well, you also knew that lacrosse has it’s origins in Native American sports, yes?  No?  Well, it’s time to get schooled and walk the red carpet at the premiere of Crooked Arrows.  Yes, you.  Red carpet.  Pulling the Jolie leg.  Or whatever pose strikes your fancy.

10 minutes of The Hobbit screened at CinemaCon

My childhood dream of owning a movie theater was probably the one I should have gone with.  Because if I did, I could have hit CinemaCon, the yearly convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO — nice acronym, that.)  And if I’d been at CinemaCon, I could have seen a full 10 minutes of Peter Jackson’s latest opus, The Hobbit.

Mmm, hobbitses.

John Cusack gets star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Seems that the opening weekend of a much talked-about new movie isn’t the only thing John Cusack is celebrating this week.  Yesterday, Cusack celebrated a bit of immortality by getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  It’s the 2,469th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for those of you keeping count.

Can’t help but wonder if he hefted a boombox during the ceremony….

Danny Elfman’s Dark Shadows orignal score hits stores May 8

The more I hear about Dark Shadows, the more excited I am to see it.  First, there was Tim Burton directing.  Then, of course, the obligatory Johnny Depp performance — Barnabas Collins, no less!  Then it was the rest of the cast, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloë Grace Moretz, Helena Bonham Carter and Jackie Earle Haley.  Now, with the music being scored by the incredibly talented Danny “would someone PLEASE give this man an Academy Award already?” Elfman, the stage is set for a rip-roaring good time.

Jaws gets the Blu-Ray treatment

We’re gonna need a bigger screen.

Jaws, the movie that stopped my Ocean City wave riding dead in it’s tracks, is ready for it’s Blu-Ray closeup.  As a part of Universal’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, the film that turned summer movies into summer blockbuster season will be digitally remastered and fully restored — no more faded colors!  It’ll also be in 7.1 surround sound, for folks with badass theater sound systems (yes, I’m jealous.)

But that’s not all.  It’s coming with a slew of extras.  Take a gander of what’s in store….
