A classic is re-released

When “The Iron Giant” arrived in theaters in 1999, it was hailed as an “instant classic” by Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal, and the world soon learned another giant had arrived as well: filmmaker Brad Bird, who made his stunning directorial debut with this film and has gone on to win two Oscars, as well as worldwide acclaim for his work on both animated and live-action features.  Winner of nine Annie Awards, “The Iron Giant” is being re-mastered and enhanced with two all-new scenes.

The film takes place in October of 1957, when America had plenty to be worried about.  Rock ’n’ roll.   Television.  The bomb.  And on the fourth day of that month, the Soviets successfully launched the first man made satellite, Sputnik, into orbit.  The space race had officially begun.  The Cold War just got colder.  People were unsure about their neighbors, even questioning their friends.

Weekend Wrap-up (9/14)

Another weekend came and went and there was some good and bad at the box-office. The good is that two new movies topped the list at spots 1 and 2. The Perfect Guy took the number 1 spot while the newest venture from M.Night Shyamalan, The Visit took the number 2 spot (he he…number 2….). M:I-RN is still going strong while Compton is getting a lot of respect from all who have seen it.

The bad is that We Are Your Friends is the worst movie of the Summer that it has fallen completely off the charts and I can’t pick on it any longer.

Weekend Wrap-up

It was a tight weekend but Straight Outta Compton just edged out War Room for the top spot. Meanwhile newly released We Are Your Friends stank up the joint so bad that it did not even come near the top 10. Mission: Impossible – Rouge Nation and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. are still holding strong.

I think we can call Jurassic World the winner for the summer as it’s been holding in the top 10 for 12 weeks straight!
