Countdown to the Oscars – our picks for Best Actor in a Supporting Role

The 84th showing of the Academy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday the 26th of February and we at Geek for E have decided to join in on the fun and give you our predictions of who will win.

Today we continue our push to the Oscars and the big 6! That’s right, the categories we’ve been waiting for. And the push continues as we make our picks for Best Actor in a Supporting Role!
And with that…the nominations go to…
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE …the nominations go to:
Kenneth Branagh for “My Week with Marilyn”
Jonah Hill for “Moneyball”
Nick Nolte for “Warrior”
Christopher Plummer for “Beginners”
Max Von Sydow for “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close”

Alex: Why was the horse not nominated from War Horse? There is something wrong in the world if I have to say ‘Oscar Winner’ and Jonah Hill or Nick Nolte in any combination of sentences. Between the other three that are left and their bodies of work (which generally gets counted in by the voters) I’m going to say that Christopher Plummer wins for Beginners.

Denise: Dunno, the idea of Nolte up on the dais giving a speech half in the bag really, REALLY appeals to me.  But I’m betting on Christopher Plummer for Beginners; it’s the type of role the Academy loves to recognize, and Plummer nailed it.

Matthew: Nick Nolte – if he doesn’t win I will bulk up like Hardy did and kick some arse!

Tatiana: I’ll go with Christopher Plummer (even though I loved Jonah Hill in Moneyball).

Rock: I dug Branagh in ‘Week With Marilyn,’ he played a great Olivier, but it won’t be enough.  You can forget Nolte because the 7 second LIVE delay won’t be enough for the psychotic rant he’d go on if he won.  Jonah Hill in Moneyball is a waste for me, I honestly don’t see what the nominations in any category are for this film – it just wasn’t very good.  His acting was far from a stretch or growth, even for a guy who came from teen fodder.  It has to be Plummer.  I haven’t seen the film yet, but he’s my pick by elimination of those who I think are unworthy.

Score Card…
Matthew – Warrior
Everyone else – Beginners
