The 84th showing of the Academy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday the 26th of February and we at Geek for E have decided to join in on the fun and give you our predictions of who will win.
Today we are going to look at the two sound categories of SOUND MIXING & SOUND EDITING.
SOUND EDITING is how the sounds fit into the story. Do the voices match up with the mouths moving on screen? Does the music cut into the scene correctly when there is a transition?
SOUND MIXING is the art of having the correct levels for all the audio on the track. Can the voices be heard over the gun fire? Can the music be heard as it underlines and enhances the scene?
So let’s get the party started…

Denise: Though I thought the battle scenes in War Horse were well crafted (and better still, didn’t overpower the quieter scenes in the film), I’m betting on Transformers: Dark of the Moonon this one.Alex: I’ve heard great things about each of the nominations in this category. However I’m a fan of the Autobot/Decepticon battles and have to say that Transformers: Dark of the Moontakes this one.Matthew: Didn’t see any of them but going with War Horse.

OUR PICKS…
Denise: Though editing may fall to the Transformers, I’m thinking Sound Mixing will go to War Horse. The blending of the many, many different sounds was precise and nothing seemed to get drowned out by anything else. The sounds made me feel like I was in the thick of it. Score.Alex: I’m going clean sweep for the technical side of things with Michael Bay’s destructive masterpiece known as Transformers: Dark of the Moon.Matthew: Didn’t see any of them but going with War Horse.
