It started as a simple bachelor party in 2009’s The Hangover. It continued in 2011’s The Hangover Part II as the group traveled to Bangkok. And it all comes to an end in The Hangover Part III. The boys are back…the boys are back…the boys are back in town!
The circle is now complete and a franchise that started in 2009 can finally be closed in 2013…or can it?? The gang is brought back into the fold when Marshall (John Goodman) has Black Doug (Mike Epps) and his crew capture the Wolf Pack to help track Chow (Ken Jong) who has escaped from his recent home in a Bangkok prison. It seems that Chow stole 21 million in gold bricks from Marshall and he wants it back. So he thinks that Allan (Zach Galifianakis), Phil (Bradley Cooper), and Stu (Ed Helms) can help him get it back or else Doug (Justin Bantha) will be killed. So the Pack sets out to find Chow who happens to still be friends with Allan and has been communicating with him for a while. Needless to say hilarity follows as the Pack tracks down Chow to save Doug and return the gold to Marshall.
And this is where I bring back The good, The bad, and The crazy!
The Good:
- The plot moved forward from the second installment and didn’t try to duplicate the wheel as they did in that second film.
- There really is a lot to laugh at that makes you want to cheer the gang as they look for and eventually team up with Chow.
- I liked the “call backs” to the first two movies (more from the first then the second) and not acting as if those events didn’t happen. This really made the overall story feel as if there was a start, middle, and now end to this chapter in these character’s lives.
- Another movie that allows Melissa McCarthy to shine, even if she’s only in it for a few minutes. Could we see a sequel with her in it? Hmmmm…….
The Bad:
- I didn’t find any bad that really detracted from the movie.
The Crazy:
- Enjoy the opening sequence with the giraffe.
- Songs from Billy Joel are used in a way that I’ve never seen before…quite bizarre.
- Chow being Chow – “I believe I can fly….”
- Stay through the credits, well the first part that is, as you get a very interesting post-credit coda.
Rated R for lots of crude humor, adult language, nudity, and violence, The Hangover III delivers a fun time for all to enjoy.
