You’ve seen Tom Cruise rock out with his pecs out. You’ve seen Catherine Zeta-Jones all buttoned up. And now the soundtrack for Rock of Ages has an official go-date: June 5th, almost two weeks before the film’s debut.
Wanna know what’s on on tap? Yeah you do. Rock read on, my friends.
I have to admit that it will be problematic for me to watch this in theaters. I won’t be able to stop myself from singing along to these songs, because these are the tunes I grew up with. All apologies in advance to the folks sitting anywhere around me, because I am not exactly the golden voice of the ages.
Of course, Rock of Ages is based on the Tony Award winning musical that had folks in Broadway rockin’ out. As I’ve always been too cheap lazy to head up to NYC to catch it when it was on stage, I’m looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. And since everybody knows how Tom Cruise throws himself into character, his performance as Stacee Jaxx should be a whole lot of fun. Plus, 80s fashion? I am so there.
From the press release:
“Taking classic, beloved rock anthems and seeing them through the unique perspective of the characters in the film was such an exciting prospect for me in directing Rock of Ages,” said filmmaker Adam Shankman. “We had a phenomenal cast who performed these songs in such a powerful way—adding depth and meaningful imagery to the film. I was lucky to have a partner in Adam Anders who, better than anyone working today, understands how to take popular songs and seamlessly repurpose them to tell a story with unparalleled originality and success.”
