TwittReview: Into the Woods is a Crash-like adventure blending the Brother’s Grimm versions of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Red Ridding Hood, and Rapunzel into a musical adventure tied together by an original story plot narrative. Flat story, slow pacing, distracting songs takes away any positives from the casting. Grade: 2 out of 5
New Dark Shadows trailer hits tonight!
Depp. Burton. Collins.
Sounds good, right? Vampires, ghoulies, ghosties…and the wonderfully warped world of Tim Burton. I used to rush home when re-runs of the original Dark Shadows played on weekday afternoons, so hearing about this movie got my expectations up. Hearing that this will be a bit of a spoof — think The Brady Bunch the tv show vs. The Brady Bunch Movie — makes me think Burton may have another winner on his hands. She said hopefully.
We’ll all get a good look at Barnabas Collins and his brood tonight, when a trailer for Dark Shadows comes to Apple. We all know that Johnny Depp is never one to pull away from a role, so his portrayal of Barnabas should be a real hoot.
Movie Review: The Rum Diary (R)
Somewhere in a hereafter paradise, writer Hunter S. Thompson is smiling. Why? Because a trusted and loyal friend like Johnny Depp kept true to his word and adapted his age old novel into a crafty, witty and stimulatingly produced film. Let’s be clear here, if you’re looking for a fun ride in the sunny tropics with Depp channeling Captain Jack of ‘Pirates’ fame, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you want a thought provoking, mental imaginarium of the wondrous celebration of writer bringing ink to quill, you will love this movie, and you’ll walk away like me thinking actor Michael Rispoli just earned his first Academy award nomination (for Supporting Actor).
